Certificates, independent laboratories and the ways both fail

Introduction

Independent testing exists because a supplier's own certificate is a claim rather than a measurement the buyer has verified. Four services are referred to throughout this wiki — Janoshik Analytical, Medutest, PeptideMeter and VendorInvestigate — and each has a different methodology, a different reporting practice and a different set of blind spots.

This portal also covers the failure modes: underfilling, forged reports, inflated purity claims and the sampling problem that undermines all of them.

Area percent purity — Area percent purity is the area of the principal chromatographic peak as a proportion of total integrated peak area. It is a relative measure and says nothing about the mass in a vial.
